Alfa Chemistry, a leading chemical company in New York, announced that they will offer a powerful range of graphenes.

On June 25, 2019, Alfa Chemistry, a leading chemical company in New York, announced that they will offer a powerful range of graphenes, including graphene with high quality, CVD graphene, defect-free single crystals of graphene, graphene-like materials series, series of graphene quantum dots, highly oriented pyrolytic graphite for expanding their production lines.

Graphene with high quality

Graphene is a two-dimensional crystal composed of closely packed carbon atoms. As is well known, graphene is the world’s thinnest and hardest nanomaterial. Due to its unique electrical, mechanical, thermal, optical properties and high specific surface area, graphene is highly valued in the fields of chemistry, physics, materials and energy. As a new type of nanomaterial with the thinnest, maximum strength and maximum conductive conductivity, graphene has broad application prospects. It is called “black gold” and “king of new materials” and is recognized as the “revolutionary material” of the 21st century.

CVD graphene

Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is a method of depositing gaseous reactants onto a substrate that produces relatively high quality graphene. Although there are different ways to create or isolate a graphene monolayer, the most popular method to date is the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. CVD “bottom-up” synthesis has become a scalable and reliable method for producing large-area graphene.

Defect-free single crystals of graphene

Single crystals of graphene are ideal materials for the electronics field due to the absence of grain boundaries and associated defect clusters. Many methods have been proposed to produce graphene monolayers. These methods can be divided into two categories, including bottom-up methods (CVD and epitaxial growth) and top-down methods (eg. mechanical stripping of graphite).

Graphene-like materials series

Graphene-like materials refer to a series of two-dimensional (2D) materials that have a similar structure to graphene but contain different compositions. The atoms of such materials are arranged in two dimensions and their bond strength is much stronger than in a third dimension. And a common feature of these layered materials is that the bulk 3D crystals are stacked structures. Due to their unique properties and high specific surface area, graphene-like materials can be used in a wide range of applications, including optoelectronics, semiconductors, catalysts, chemical sensors, biosensors, supercapacitors, solar cells and lithium-ion batteries.

Series of graphene quantum dots

Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) refer to single to tens of layers of graphene having a size of less than 30 nm, and are composed of nano-scale graphene particles having sp 2 -sp 2 carbon bonds. Due to its low toxicity, stable photoluminescence, chemical stability and remarkable quantum confinement effects, GQD is considered a new material for biological, optoelectronic, energy and environmental applications. GQD has a variety of important applications in bioimaging, cancer therapy, temperature sensing, drug delivery, surfactants, LED lighter transducers, photodetectors, solar cells, photoluminescent materials and biosensor manufacturing.

Highly oriented pyrolytic graphite

Highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) is a synthetic graphite of high purity and ordered form. And it is characterized by a low mosaic spread angle, which means that the individual graphite crystallites are well aligned with each other. Due to the mosaic features of mosaic focus and high integral reflectivity, HOPG can be used as a powerful optics for X-ray diagnostics, X-ray absorption and spectral emission. It also can be used as a substrate for magnification calibration in a scanning probe microscope.

“With the gradual breakthrough of large-scale production, the industrial application of graphene is accelerating. And according to the existing research results, the first commercial areas of graphene should be mobile equipment, aerospace, and new energy batteries.” Said Dr. Brenda Randy, the marketing manager of Alfa Chemistry.
