Rockingham Dentist Takes Up Fight Against Tooth Decay

November 18, 2019 – Rockingham, WA Rockingham Dental Centre has seen a concerning increase in the amount of tooth decay amongst their patients. This has prompted them to provide a simple guide on how to prevent tooth decay for residents in the area. It is hoped that the guide will help educate the community on some simple steps they can take to reduce tooth decay.

Dr. Hari Menon, dentist and owner of Rockingham Dental Centre says that many people could reduce the decay levels by getting the basics right. “Regular brushing and flossing will go a long way to reducing tooth decay,” says Menon. “Combining consistent cleaning with regular check-ups at the dentist will significantly reduce decay and gum disease.”

A recent survey of Australians showed that less than half are brushing their teeth twice a day. This has led to 90% of adults with some form of tooth decay. Perhaps the most alarming is the fact that more than a third of 5-year-olds had decay in their baby teeth.

The tooth decay prevention guide also encourages people to eat less sugary or starchy food. Cakes, lollies and ice cream have a lot of sugar, producing more acid in your mouth, which in turn encourages the growth of bacteria. This growth in bacteria leads to the decay of teeth.

There many dentists in Australia who are echoing a similar sentiment, producing guides such as this video on the correct technique for brushing your teeth. Rockingham Dental Centre hopes to do their bit to contribute to the overall health of the local community.

Rockingham enjoys a relaxed beachside lifestyle South of Perth. It consists of a broad range of ages from young families to retired couples. With an array of beautiful beaches, jetties, and restaurants, residents are encouraged to enjoy a healthy outdoor lifestyle. The team at Rockingham Dental Centre sees it as their mission to remind local residents to think about the health of their teeth as well, contributing to the well being of their community.

With a large loyal base of patients from Rockingham and surrounding suburbs such as Port Kennedy, Baldivis and Safety Bay, it seems that their message is getting through. The clinic has been part of the community at Rockingham Foreshore for over 50 years and has a growing customer base thanks to word of mouth from happy patients.
