Experts Say Masks Could Be Needed for Years

Most experts agree that masks are here to stay as Americans try to resume life safely after COVID-19.

Norristown, PA – There’s a growing consensus among experts that masks are here to stay as part of American life. Most COVID-19 experts expect the public to continue wearing masks for years. Among those supporting this idea are senior scholars at John Hopkins University who have been at the forefront of tracking virus spread. Shan Soe-Lin of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, is adamant that Americans will have to wear masks until there is a vaccine.

The most optimistic view at the moment is that a vaccine will be available by some point in 2021. However, there’s no clear path regarding how to ensure that the vaccine is administered to the majority of the population. Exceptions regarding health or religious concerns could mean that a sizable percentage of the population may not get a future COVID-19 vaccine even if it does become available in the months to come. As with all vaccines, people with compromised immune systems will need to rely on others’ responsible practices to stay safe. This means that masks may be here to stay for months or years after a COVID-19 vaccine is rolled out. While the concept of masking is new to Americans, wearing masks while out in public or using public transportation has been commonplace in many Asian countries for years.

“We’re encouraged by the fact that so many people want to take an active role in helping to stop the spread of COVID-19 by practicing safe, effective masking practices,” shares the leadership team at Secure Components. The Norristown company specializes in supplying personal protective equipment (PPE) and masks to industrial, commercial, medical and educational enterprises. “Of course, being able to source authentic N95 masks that can be properly fitted has been repeatedly shown to be the most effective strategy in studies conducted by Duke researchers and the CDC,” the team adds.

Repeated studies conducted since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic have shown that properly fitted N95 masks offer the highest level of protection against particles. The most recent findings show zero particle spread when N95 masks are correctly worn. By contrast, coverings like bandannas and neck gaiters are either ineffective or counterproductive.

The Secure Components team is reaching out to the public to let them know they are using the same supply-chain resources and vetting techniques used in their long-standing government contracts to help companies and organizations across all fields get access to quality masks. The company is also warning buyers to be aware of fly-by-night mask suppliers trying to cash in with counterfeit or inferior products. Parties in need of masks in bulk, ongoing orders can contact the Secure Components sales team.
