Laurel Myers Shares a Harrowing Tale of that Fateful Day on September 16th, 2013

MILTON, Fla. – August 4, 2021 – Dr. Laurel Myers’ “Shooting At The Navy Yard: One Survivor’s Memoir” is a book that will take you through the harrowing tale of that fateful day on September 16th, 2013 when a lone and disturbed shooter — 34-year-old Aaron Alexis — fatally shot 12 people and injured three others in a mass shooting at the headquarters of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) inside the Washington Navy Yard in southeast Washington, D.C. It was the second-deadliest mass murder on a U.S. military base, behind the 2009 Fort Hood, Texas shooting.

Myers and her husband lived near Washington D.C. and she worked as a teacher before entering the US Government workforce. “Shooting At the Navy Yard: One Survivor’s Memoir”, looks at the victims of the shooting as well as the perpetrator; it is a definitive account that describes how lives were affected and how people dealt with the aftermath of the tragedy.  It recounts the unimaginable shooting, the chaos and carnage that lasted for almost an hour before the killer was taken down. Myers’ account of the incident was painful and shocking. She, along with the other survivors, live through the horrifying experience repeatedly and the effects of that experience will last a lifetime.

“Shooting At the Navy Yard: One Survivor’s Memoir” creates mounting tension for readers as hidden fears are revealed. Myers painstakingly chronicles her journey with honesty while trying to come to terms with the incomprehensible situation.  She has been profoundly affected by the incident, narrating how her life was changed and reshaped by the events of that day.

Drawing upon her bravery, she hopes that her experience will bring strength to persevere in the face of those who shun the idea that it could happen again, the courage to continue her vigilance when entering any area, whether public or private, and the understanding that when something bad happens it’s not only up to us to survive the best way we can, but to help by any means possible, including calling 911 to provide information to outside help as needed.  Find out how she lived through the horrifying encounter. Will she continue to slowly heal, and bury the memory of that terrible day? Will she be able to rebuild her shattered life?  Will the survivors slowly heal, bury the memory of that day, and rebuild their shattered lives? If they do rebuild their lives, how will their lives have changed? How different are they now from before the shooting?

Shooting at the Navy Yard is not a feel-good book, but it is an important one.” – Hollywood Book Reviews
